Rian Van Der Merwe grew up and studied engineering in Stellenbosch, South Africa. In 2001 he took a scholarship to complete his Ph.D in Internet Marketing at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. While in Australia, he met an American girl who seemed to be South African at heart, and his relentless pursuit of her eventually led him to move to America, where they got married in 2004.
Rian and his wife currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area where he works as a Product Manager for free website provider Yola.com. They just welcomed their first daughter into the world, and plan to return to South Africa permanently sometime in 2010, where Rian will continue to work at Yola’s Cape Town office.
He blogs here mostly about the journey home to South Africa, thoughts on fatherhood, and anything else that might come to mind.
