Rian Van Der Merwe grew up and studied engineering in Stellenbosch, South Africa. In 2001 he took a scholarship to complete his Ph.D in Internet Marketing at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. While in Australia, he met an American girl who seemed to be South African at heart, and his relentless pursuit of her eventually led him to move to America, where they got married in 2004.
Rian and his wife lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 6 years. They recently welcomed their first daughter into the world, and returned to South Africa permanently sometime in 2010.
He blogs here mostly about the journey home to South Africa, thoughts on fatherhood, and anything else that might come to mind.
